12/13/2023 0 Comments Hike to manoa falls![]() ![]() Definitely the earlier the better to beat the crowds. The cost to enter the park is $1 walk-in or $5 per car. The park where the hike is located opens at 6 am and closes at 6 pm. This is, by far, one of the more popular hikes on the island and gets very full with tourists. Diamond Headįirst stop on the hiking tour is Diamond Head. However, doing all of the hikes in one day will require some physical endurance and an early start, as it is nearly 6.5 miles in combined trails. The great thing is that all of the hikes are relatively short, so you can do all three in one day! Or, you can break them up and do one at a time, whatever works for your schedule. For first time Oahu hikers, I recommend these three hikes to get a sense of the land. For the hiking enthusiasts, there are endless hikes on the island that offer different views and terrain. If you’re spending time in Oahu, you probably have a large bucket list. ![]() Many scenes from LOST and Jurassic Park were filmed here so it was nice to be IN the area.Links may be "affiliate links". ![]() We are happy to have visited this rainforest. I was grateful for the many tourists that would stop and lend me a hand to get down. My husband wiped out two times coming back down because he wore Crocs (BAD IDEA).it's best to be very careful, walk slowly and have someone with you to help jump down. There are lots of big rocks which help for grip but a few areas that have wooden planks which get VERY slippery. The only issue was coming back down from the hike. Even though it took us about 40 minutes to get to the top, it wasn't so much seeing the waterfall that impressed us, but just the hike up there was nice. I wouldn't swim in it personally but it was a great sight to see. The waterfall itself was quite nice and the pool seemed really good. It was nice to hike without having to worry about scary animals or bugs. The scenery though is magnificent,so lush and fresh.and the birds chirping away were lovely. It had rained earlier (and we missed it thankfully), so the mud was more like brown clay, and there were tons of puddles to avoid. The hike up to the waterfall was beautiful. Our driver gave us some good tips and let us explore the rainforest for 3 hours. We had never been in a rainforest before and thought this would be a great experience. My husband and I took this tour as part of our GO OAHU card. Interesting sights along the way include giant leafed plants, thick bamboo forests, and other lush green sections of forest. ![]() The falls are lovely to see, although since it is near town, you will likely be joined by other hikers. It is best for those who don't have balance problems or unsure footing, only because there are sections where you must scramble up muddy roots and other areas that are a bit eroded. The hike is moderately strenuous, and not long by hiking standards. The trail becomes slick with mud in areas, so take your time, and plan to be muddy at hike's end (there's a spigot to rinse off at the parking lot). Plan on being wet, but its not uncomfortable or cold in summer (don't know about any other time). We left downtown on a warm, sunny day, and found the afternoon on/off showers and mist of Manoa to be refreshing. There is parking there for $5, or you can catch a bus to a stop outside the park and walk in. My adventurous 8 year old side kick and I enjoyed a refreshing walk along the Manoa Falls trail. ![]()
